Our Commitment

EMSCommand is committed to making our platform accessible to all users, including EMS professionals who rely on assistive technologies. We believe that every member of your agency — regardless of ability — should be able to manage credentials, track compliance, and access the tools they need without barriers.

Accessibility is not an afterthought at EMSCommand. It is a core part of how we design, build, and maintain our platform. CrisisZone LLC, the company behind EMSCommand, recognizes that EMS agencies serve diverse communities and that the people who staff those agencies are equally diverse in how they interact with technology.

Standards

We aim to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA across all areas of the EMSCommand platform. WCAG 2.1 AA is the widely accepted benchmark for digital accessibility and addresses the needs of users with visual, auditory, motor, and cognitive disabilities.

We are also working toward Section 508 compliance for government-funded agencies. Many EMS organizations operate under municipal, county, or state authority and are subject to federal accessibility requirements. We take this responsibility seriously and are actively aligning our platform with Section 508 standards to support agencies that need to meet those obligations.

Current Accessibility Features

EMSCommand currently includes the following accessibility features:

• Keyboard navigation — All core workflows can be completed using a keyboard alone, without requiring a mouse or touch input.
• ARIA landmarks and labels — Interactive elements throughout the platform use appropriate ARIA attributes to convey their purpose and state to assistive technologies.
• Semantic HTML structure — Pages are built with meaningful HTML elements (headings, lists, landmarks, and form labels) that provide a logical reading order and document outline.
• Sufficient color contrast ratios — Text and interactive elements meet or exceed WCAG 2.1 AA contrast requirements to ensure readability across displays and lighting conditions.
• Focus-visible indicators — Focused elements display clear, visible outlines so that keyboard users always know where they are on the page.
• Responsive design — The platform adapts to various screen sizes, from large desktop monitors to tablets and mobile devices, without loss of content or functionality.
• Screen reader compatible modals and dialogs — Overlay elements such as modals and confirmation dialogs are announced to screen readers, trap focus appropriately, and can be dismissed with standard keyboard shortcuts.
• Light and dark mode support — Users can choose between light and dark color themes to suit their preference and reduce eye strain in different working environments.

Known Limitations

While we strive for comprehensive accessibility, we are aware of several areas where improvements are still in progress:

• Emoji-based icons — Some decorative icons rendered as emoji may not have text alternatives in all contexts. We are systematically replacing these with properly labeled SVG icons.
• Legacy tool pages — A small number of older tool pages are being migrated to improved semantic markup. These pages remain functional but may not fully conform to our current accessibility standards.
• Complex data tables — Certain reporting and compliance tables that display multi-dimensional data may benefit from additional ARIA descriptions and row/column headers. This work is actively being addressed.

We maintain an internal accessibility backlog and prioritize these items alongside new feature development.

When reporting an accessibility issue, it is helpful to include a description of the problem, the page or feature where you encountered it, and the assistive technology you were using (if applicable). We make every effort to respond to accessibility-related inquiries promptly and to address reported issues in a timely manner.

Continuous Improvement

Accessibility is an ongoing effort, not a one-time checklist. We regularly audit our platform using both automated tools and manual testing with assistive technologies. These audits inform our development roadmap and help us catch regressions before they reach production.

Accessibility is considered in every stage of new feature development — from design review through implementation and quality assurance. Our team receives regular training on accessible development practices, and we incorporate accessibility acceptance criteria into our release process.

Third-Party Content

EMSCommand integrates with certain third-party services to provide functionality such as web fonts (Google Fonts) and analytics. While we select third-party tools with accessibility in mind, the accessibility of content delivered by these external services is outside our direct control.

If you experience an accessibility issue that appears to originate from a third-party integration, please still report it to us at hello@emscommand.com. We will work with the provider to seek a resolution or, where possible, implement an alternative that better serves all users.
